Sesame Street – Kids mimicking construction equipment

Here is a classic film clip about boys pretending to be drills and tractors. I recorded this in 1986. I remember watching this when I was about three of four years old. I think it was filmed in 1969. Originally, I wasn’t going to include it because it is featured on the “Sesame Street: Old school vol. 1″ DVD. I changed my mind because some people don’t have the DVD. Hopefully, people will go out and buy it after watching this clip. Old School SS fans like me remember the “I’m broken” part!

@quepsi84 Could you be more descriptive about the segments you were in?

I’ve been looking for some of these videos for years!!! I’m the kid in the red sweater at the end. I did about four different segments and have been trying to locate the rest. Anyone that can help, would have my appreciation. By the way, it was maaaad fun…

I just found out today that Jim Henson has something to do with this short film. The Blonde Headed Kid is Brian Henson, son of the Late Jim Henson.

Brian & the Henson children are no running the Jim Henson Company. Brian is now a Puppeteer, Producer & a Director. He is following his fathers footsteps. :-) He was only like 3 years old in this clip.

@d72jjpilc I agree, just press the nose and crank the tummy.

  • cochranexyz says:

    What kid didn’t do this?

  • d72jjpilc says:

    ‘What’s the matter?’
    ‘I’m broken.’
    ‘GRRRRRRR!’

Cute indeed! I’m in line with all of the others who posted here – whatever happened to good old Sesame Street?

@jackmanslightpepper Yeah, as a kid you can look like a complete moron and it’s okay.

  • HootsytheOwl says:

    @raposofan absolutely.

Part of the appeal of film clips like this on Sesame Street was that it could connect with those of us poor street kids. We could identify with the kids on the screen. They were acting like real kids (as opposed to kids who made witty retorts and wisecracking comments that were scripted for them), they dressed like real kids (as opposed to wearing designer clothes), they used their imagination and their hands when they played (instead of with store bought toys which we couldnt afford).

Ha ha…just had a flashback to the orange and red shag carpet in my parents’ basement growing up…and my friend’s TV that had to warm up before it would show the picture.

LOVED this as a kid. My husband is from England and didn’t grow up with Sesame Street and finds today’s version too Elmo-ized and too overly politically correct (as in how the cookie monster is now telling you that cookies are a sometimes food) I agree. My kids love the old time sesame street clips.

Cool! Does his son still work with Sesame street or did he get another job?

  • AFGSANFORD2 says:

I really liked that kid eating like that although some people don’t like that and would take your food away for eating like that or maybe spank you with a belt. I really like this clip and also like how the boy starts the other up again.

  • jackmanslightpepper says:

Why doesn’t quality stuff like this exist anymore!!! Our kids need this to positively stimulate their minds!

  • churchillburns says:

OMG!!! So happy to have found this. To this day I work with heavy equipment. What great childhood memories were brought back!

  • muppetfan33 says:

You shouldn’t eat ice cream that fast. It will give you a headache. One of those children was Jim Henson’s son.

  • sortashaman says:

Notice that the boy had an electric starter, and a hand-crank backup start as well…no “pony motor”, though…

  • Tubescaper says:

    So did I!

  • Souperherough says:

I used to think that the kids were eating clay.

  • 1977kb0wqh1996 says:

That one kid almost busts out laughing when the other boy “starts him up” again!! LOL

  • ProfessorIgor says:

Statz you rule !!!!!!!!!! I have been looking for this one FOREVER !!! This was one of my faves back in the day…. havent seen it in… I dunno, 30yrs ?? 40 is coming up for me in September… it’s amazing how much we actually retain as kids, eh ?

  • GalacticCabaret2 says:
